Putnam County Bank

Our History

Founded in October 1901, Putnam County Bank has proudly served the residents and businesses of Putnam County for over a century. Originally located on Putnam Avenue, the Bank moved in 1922 to its current location at 2761 Main Street in Hurricane, West Virginia. The facility underwent major renovations in 1959 and 1975 to accommodate growth and modernization.

Our Structure

Putnam County Bank is a state-chartered bank regulated by the West Virginia Division of Banking and the Federal Reserve System. All deposits are insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).

We are a wholly-owned subsidiary of Putnam Bancshares, Inc., a one-bank holding company formed in 1985. Shareholders of Putnam County Bank exchanged their shares for equal value in the new holding company. Putnam Bancshares also holds a controlling interest in Putnam County Title Insurance Company. The same board of directors governs both entities, ensuring consistent leadership and strategic alignment.

1980s: Innovation & New Locations

The mid-1980s marked the Bank’s entrance into ATM services and computer-connected branches.

  • 1985: The Interstate Office opened at 300 Hurricane Creek Road near the Hurricane exit of I-64, offering full-service banking and a 24-hour ATM.

  • 1992: The Valley Office launched at 3058 Mount Vernon Road near the Winfield exit, expanding our community presence.

2000s: Enhanced Lending Services

In 2003, the Bank opened its Loan Center at 2759 Main Street—formerly Clark’s Five and Dime Store. This dedicated space allows loan officers to meet with customers in a private, comfortable setting while also improving the efficiency of loan operations.
